Manuscript Overview
Summary
1 Samuel 10 contains Saul's secret anointing, the prophetic frenzy ('Saul among the prophets'), and the public selection by lot at Mizpah. The chapter division between 10 and 11 is the locus of the 'Nahash paragraph' — see chapter 11 for the marquee variant. The paragraph follows v. 27 in 4QSamᵃ (some editions place it as 10:27b; NRSV uses that numbering).
Notable Variants
MARQUEE: the Nahash paragraph is positioned at the end of chapter 10 (or beginning of chapter 11) in the chapter divisions of NRSV and others. See dss-1-samuel/11 for full discussion.

Scroll Condition
4QSamᵃ preserves the chapter end and the transition to chapter 11.
But certain worthless men said, "How can this one save us?" They despised him and brought him no tribute. But Saul kept silent.
The MT closes with 'but he held his peace' (vayhi k'maḥarish). 4QSamᵃ continues directly into the Nahash paragraph (NRSV 10:27b) — see chapter 11 for the full text and discussion.
