Chapter Overview

Summary

Isaiah 30 is the WOE-TO-EGYPT-RELIANCE oracle. Verse 15's 'in returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength' is one of the OT's-most-quoted devotional-axioms — though-immediately-followed-by 'and you would not.' Verse 18's 'blessed are all those who wait for him' is the chapter's-promise.

Notable Variants

30:15 'in returning and rest, in quietness and trust' — devotional-classic but-rejected by-the-people; 30:18 'blessed are all those who wait for him' beatitude; 30:26 'the moon will be as bright as the sun' eschatological-cosmology.
