Chapter Overview
Summary
Psalm 146 (MT) / Psalm 145 (LXX) opens the FINAL HALLELUJAH-CLUSTER (Pss 146–150) — each psalm opening and closing with 'Praise the LORD!' (halleluyah). This psalm's portrait of divine-character in vv. 7–9 — 'executes justice for the oppressed, gives food to the hungry, sets prisoners free, opens eyes of the blind, lifts up those bowed down, watches over the sojourners, upholds the widow and fatherless' — is the NT's blueprint for Jesus' messianic-ministry. Luke 4:18 and Matthew 11:5 draw on this catalog.
Notable Variants
146:7–8 'sets prisoners free / opens the eyes of the blind' → Luke 4:18, Matt 11:5 Messianic-ministry fulfillment; 146:3 'put not your trust in princes' divine-vs-human-trust; the FINAL HALLELUJAH cluster opens.
