Chapter Overview

Summary

Job 29 begins Job's SUMMARY-DEFENSE (chapters 29–31) — a final-monologue presented as Job's-formal-legal-testimony before-the-divine-court. Chapter 29 is Job's-recollection of-his-prior-blessedness — the days-of-divine-favor (vv. 2–6), public-honor (vv. 7–11), and his works-of-justice for-the-poor (vv. 12–17). The chapter closes with the recollection-of-his-secure-future-expectations now-shattered (vv. 18–25).

Notable Variants

29:14 'I put on righteousness, and it clothed me' clothing-imagery for ethics; 29:15 'I was eyes to the blind, feet to the lame' — care for the disabled; 29:25 'as a king among his troops' Job's prior-public-honor.
