Chapter Overview
Summary
Proverbs 2 is a single 22-verse poem (matching the Hebrew alphabet count) structured as a conditional-promise: IF you seek wisdom (vv. 1–4), THEN you will understand the fear of the LORD (vv. 5–8), AND then wisdom will enter your heart (vv. 9–11) — with a protective-effect against evil-men (vv. 12–15) and against the seductive-adulteress (vv. 16–19). The ethical-turn (vv. 20–22) closes the chapter.
Notable Variants
2:3–6 the SEEK-WISDOM-LIKE-HIDDEN-TREASURE → Colossians 2:3 'in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge'; 2:6 'the LORD gives wisdom' → James 1:5's 'if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God'; the strange-woman / stranger-adulteress (isshah zarah) as first-major-warning anticipating chapters 5–7.
