Chapter Overview
Summary
Proverbs 4 is a father's three-fold instruction on the WAY: acquire wisdom (vv. 1–9), walk in wisdom's path (vv. 10–19), and guard your heart-and-mouth-and-eyes-and-feet (vv. 20–27). Verse 23's 'keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life' is one of the Psalter's most-cited interior-ethics axioms.
Notable Variants
4:18 'the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn' as morning-star eschatology (cf. 2 Pet 1:19); 4:23 'keep your heart with all vigilance' classic interior-ethics; 4:25–27 eyes-forward / feet-straight — discipleship-path.
