Jubilees 35

In the seventh year of this week, Isaac called his two sons Esau and Jacob. They came to him, and he said:

REF And in the seventh year Isaac called his two sons Esau and Jacob.

My sons, I am going the way of my fathers, to the eternal dwelling where my fathers have gone.

REF 'My sons, I am going the way of my fathers, to the eternal house.'

Bury me near my father Abraham, in the double cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite.

REF 'Bury me near Abraham my father, in the double cave.'

I command you, my sons: practice righteousness and integrity on the earth, so that the Lord may bring upon you everything he promised Abraham.

REF 'I command you to practise righteousness on the earth.'

Love one another, my sons — love your brother as a man loves his own soul. Let each one seek how to benefit his brother.

REF 'And love one another, my sons.'

Concerning idols, I command and warn you: reject them and despise them. They are full of deception for those who worship them.

REF 'Concerning idols, I command you to reject them and hate them.'

Remember, my sons, the Lord God of Abraham your father, and how I too worshiped and served him in righteousness.

REF 'Remember the Lord God of Abraham your father.'

Now I will have you swear a great oath by the glorious and mighty Name that created the heavens and the earth and everything in them: that you will fear him and worship him.

REF 'And now I shall make you swear a great oath by the Name which created the heavens and earth.'

And that each of you will love his brother with genuine affection and that neither will wish evil on his brother from this day forward.

REF 'And that each will love his brother from henceforth for ever.'

If either of you plots evil against his brother, know this: whoever plots evil will fall into his brother's hand and be uprooted from the land.

REF 'And if either deviseth evil against his brother, he shall fall into his hand.'

On the day of turmoil and fury — with a devouring fire like the one that burned Sodom — so will he burn his land, his city, and everything he has.

REF 'On the day of turbulence, with flaming fire as He burnt Sodom, so will He burn his land.'

He will pass into eternal cursing, so that all judgment and curse is continually renewed against him.

REF 'He will depart into eternal execration.'

I speak and testify to you, my sons, according to the judgment that will come upon any man who seeks to harm his brother.

REF 'I say and testify to you, my sons, according to the judgment which shall come.'

That day he divided all his possessions between the two. He gave the larger portion to the firstborn.

REF And he divided all his possessions between the two on that day.

He said: This larger share I give to the firstborn.

REF And he said: 'This larger portion I will give to the firstborn.'

Esau said: I sold my birthright to Jacob and gave it to him. Let it be given to him. I have nothing to say against it.

REF And Esau said: 'I have sold my birthright to Jacob. Let it be given to him.'

Isaac said: May the blessing of the Lord rest on you, my son, and on your offspring forever.

REF And Isaac said: 'May the blessing of the Lord rest upon thee, my son.'

Isaac called his elder son Esau and said: Come here, my son, and kiss me.

REF And Isaac called Esau and blessed him also.

He blessed him: Blessed be my son and his sons' sons. May the Lord give you righteous offspring. May nations serve you.

REF And he said: 'Blessed be my son and the sons of my son. May nations serve thee.'

Be strong among men and exercise rule over all the descendants of Seth. Then your ways will be set right.

REF 'Be strong in the presence of men, and exercise authority over all the seed of Seth.'

May the Most High God give you all the blessings with which he blessed me and Noah and Adam.

REF 'May the Most High God give thee all the blessings wherewith He blessed me and Noah and Adam.'

May he cleanse you from all wickedness and forgive all the sins you have committed in ignorance.

REF 'May He cleanse thee from all unrighteousness.'

He blessed Jacob in the same way: Be blessed, my son, and your sons with the blessing of the Lord forever.

REF And he blessed Jacob in like manner.

Isaac drew his feet up onto the bed, turned his face, and entered the eternal sleep. He was gathered to his fathers.

REF And Isaac drew his feet together on to the bed, and slept the eternal sleep.

His two sons, Esau and Jacob, buried him in the double cave near their father Abraham.

REF And his two sons buried him in the double cave.

They mourned for Isaac forty days and were at peace.

REF And they mourned for Isaac forty days.

They parted in peace. Esau went to the land of Edom, to Mount Seir, and settled there.

REF And Esau went to the land of Edom.
